Friday's Class

Hello Everyone,

Today interim reports were sent home with students for the month of February. I have asked that they be signed by parents and returned by Tuesday March 3. Students have until Monday March 2 to complete any missing assignments.

We have been listening to Samurai Shortstop this week and ended at chapter 17 today. We will be taking up the Chapter 5 fill in the blanks that was assigned on Thursday on Monday March 2.

Monday's class

Today in class we wrote a quiz on chapter 5 vocab and the novel Samurai Shortstop. We listened to chapter 12 and 13 of the novel after the quiz and wrote chapter summaries.

For our second class students had a scavenger hunt handout to complete on Paragraphs using the Resourcelines.

Citizenship logs are due tomorrow.

Thursday's Class

Today in class we listened to Chapters 8 and 9 of Samurai Shortstop. We wrote chapter summaries for both chapters. Students were given back their Chapter 4 tests which they put in their portfolios.

For our second period students finished their Rabbit Proof Fence video questions and chapter 5 vocabulary. The video questions were due at the end of class.

Tuesday's Class

Today in class we listened to chapter 7 of Samurai Shortstop and wrote a chapter point summary. Students were asked to read the Worldview investigation assignment on page 172 and using their Isolated Islands from Chapter 4 to answer the 3 questions with their group members.



For second period we completed a PowerPoint fill in the blanks on pages 166-172. Tomorrow students have their Chapter 5 vocabulary words due. There are 11 words, they are to write the definition, draw a picture and use the word in a sentence.

Tuesday and Wednesday's Classes

Yesterday in class students wrote their chapter 4 unit test. We marked the short answer part in class and I will mark the rest over the weekend. For our second class students worked on Chapter 5 B-Thrild and their Simile and Metaphor poems. The Poems were due today (Wednesday) and the B-Thrild is due on Tuesday.

Today in class we watched the Samurai Japan video- students had a listening activity to complete while they watched the video which was due when the video was over. For the rest of the class students worked on completing their B-Thrild and starting their Chapter 5 vocabulary. There is no sheet for vocabulary this time, students must write the definition for each of the 11 words, draw a picture for each, and finally use the word in a sentence. Vocab will be due on Wednesday of next week.

Monday's Class

Today in class we reviewed for the Chapter 4 test which is first period tomorrow. For our second class we worked on Metaphors and began writing a poem using them. The poem is due on Wednesday. It should be illustrated and neatly copied out onto blank paper.

Thursday's Class

Today's classes were disrupted with the water main break that occurred outside our school and the grade 8 awards assembly that happened first period this morning. As a result of not have a proper review class I have decided to move the Chapter 4 test to Tuesday Feb 10, 2009.

Headline Poems are due Monday February 9. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Tuesday's Class

Today in class we listened to Chapter 6 of Samurai Shortstop. We wrote chapter summaries for the book. Students continued working on their headline poems, they are due this Thursday.

I will be away tomorrow, students will be watching Secrets of the Samurai Sword and working on Simile poems that will be due on Monday.

Thursday period 1 is the awards assembly for second reporting period. We will be reviewing for the chapter 4 test that will be given on Monday February 9.
